I hate Charter as well. Scum of the earth! Mostly because of billing issues and customer service.

I switched to Citescape (www.citescape.com) a year or so ago and have to say I am very happy with them. If something is bonkers, I call and a human answers right away (OMG!). Usually they are able to come out the same day (if need be) and fix it. With Charter you have to wait at least a week. As far as speed goes, I get less than 2.5 Mbps too (I think) but just for customer service alone, I recommend them. (they're local too). I can still play my favorite games with good latency.
